FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Lesson Details
Q: How often are lessons, and how long do they last?
Lessons are private, one-on-one sessions held once a week. You can choose either 30-minute or 60-minute lessons, or 120-minute lessons, depending on what works best for you.
Q: Do lessons run all year?
Yes! Lessons continue year-round, and your weekly time slot is reserved just for you. This helps students stay consistent and make real progress.
Q: What happens during the summer?
In June and July, I offer six flexible lessons that you schedule in advance. Students are expected to keep learning over the summer. Please note that students enrolled in 60-minute lessons may not switch to 30-minute lessons during summer. If you pause lessons, I can't guarantee your regular time slot in the fall. Traveling abroad? Paying half tuition will hold your spot.
Tuition & Payments
Q: How much do piano lessons cost?
Tuition is structured evenly across all 12 months and includes holidays and longer months. The only exception to this is for advanced coaching sessions where weekly lessons may not be necessary.
Lesson tuition varies based on lesson length, format, and individual goals. Because each student’s plan is personalized, we’ll discuss pricing during your free introductory lesson or consultation. This ensures you only pay for the instruction that truly fits your needs.
Q: Why is tuition the same every month?
Tuition is based on a yearly schedule and divided into equal monthly payments. Some months have more lessons and some have fewer due to holidays, but the monthly rate stays consistent to keep billing simple and predictable.
Your tuition reserves your dedicated weekly lesson time in the studio, not just the individual lessons you attend.
Q: When is payment due?
Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. Tuition is set at a monthly flat rate that accounts for holidays and any five-week months.
Q: How can I pay?
You can pay by cash, check, Zelle, or Venmo.
Q: Are there discounts available?
Yes! Discounted tuition rates are available for senior students. Please ask during your consultation for details.
Missed Lessons & Makeups
Q: What if we miss a lesson?
Your tuition holds your reserved lesson time, so there are no refunds or reductions for missed lessons.
Q: Are makeup lessons offered?
Makeup lessons are offered only for situations where the student is sick, or if there are unsafe weather conditions.
Q: Can we reschedule if we’re on vacation or have another activity?
Unfortunately, personal conflicts like vacations or extracurriculars don’t qualify for makeup lessons.
Student Expectations
Q: How much should students practice?
Consistency is key! Students should practice at least five days a week to build skills and make steady progress.
Q: Do we need a piano at home?
Yes. Students should have either a well-maintained acoustic piano (tuned yearly) or a digital piano with 88 fully weighted keys.
Q: Are there any other requirements?
Yes - short fingernails! Keeping nails trimmed helps with proper hand position and technique.
Recitals
Q: Are recitals required?
I host one recital each year, and all students are expected to participate. It’s a great chance to share what they’ve learned and celebrate their progress. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in Federation of Festivals and competitions - feel free to ask me for more information!
Starting or Ending Lessons
Q: How do we stop lessons if needed?
A written 60-day notice is required, and tuition must continue to be paid during the notice period. Please note that students must stay enrolled through the end of May and December - lessons may not end in April or November, and those months cannot be used as part of the 60-day notice window.
